Submission Guidelines

Hogglepot accepts fantasy and science fiction of all sub-genres, including (but not limited to) alternate history, dystopian, fairy tale, historical, gothic, light fantasy, magical realism, paranormal, science fantasy, space opera, steampunk, superhero, supernatural, sword and sorcery, time travel, urban fantasy, and weird western.

Hogglepot accepts fiction only (we have published narrative poetry in the past, so we will look at it if you send it, but please note that we are much more critical of poetry). There is a 5,000 word limit on submissions at this time. If you submit something longer than 5,000 words, we will immediately send a rejection. Beneath the word limit, we have no preference for length, just keep in mind that the longer a story is, the longer it will take us to read it, and the longer it will take us to reply.

Submissions must be original and unsolicited. Stories may be previously published, so long as the author retains the rights. Simultaneous submissions are okay, but if a story is accepted elsewhere before we have time to get to it, let us know. We only accept email submissions, seeing as we do not have a physical address.

To submit, please use the following format.

Subject: SUBMISSION: Title of Story – Your Name

Body of email:

Your Name Please use your real name. If you would like your story to be published under a different name, please include both and verify which is which.

Your Email Address Please use the email you wish to be contacted at, and make sure you are sending your submission from that email.

Cover Letter Please include a short biography and any relevant information, personal publication history, and whether this is a multiple submission.

Title of Story

Story Text Please use email formatting: no paragraph indentation, hard returns between paragraphs (white space), and no fancy text or formatting; bold and italics are okay.

You should receive a confirmation email within 72 hours stating that we received your submission and it is being processed (weekend submissions may take longer). Please allow a six week response time for us to get back to you about your story. We respond to all submissions, and we may offer detailed criticism if possible. If you haven’t heard from us by then, please feel free to resubmit and let us know that it is a resubmission in the subject of the email.
